Interior design for shingle-style homes, beach houses, and new builds across the South Fork, from Westhampton to Amagansett.
Robyn Baumgarten has designed Long Island homes for more than 25 years, including many on the South Fork. Her rooms have been featured in House, Distinction, Fashion Manuscript, Newsday, and the Long Island Press. She runs her studio in Plainview and travels east to meet clients at home.
The Hamptons cover a string of villages and hamlets along the South Fork, in the Towns of Southampton and East Hampton. Housing ranges from 18th-century farmhouses and whaling-era village homes to shingle-style estates and modern beach houses on former potato fields.
What ties them together is the setting. Strong sun, salt air, sand, and summer guests all test a room. Robyn designs for that from the start. For a closer look at the style itself, see our guide to Hamptons interior design.
A beach house should feel easy. It also has to survive wet towels, sandy feet, and a full house every weekend. Robyn balances both with performance fabrics, natural stone, solid hardware, and finishes that age well near the ocean.
Light leads the design. South Fork homes get bright, reflected light off the water and the fields. Robyn uses soft, natural palettes and window treatments that control glare without blocking the view.
Many clients are not on site year-round. Robyn manages the trades, deliveries, and installation while you are away, and sends updates as the work moves forward.
These villages do not have their own page on our site, so each one gets a short guide here. For towns with a dedicated page, see the town guides below.
Sag Harbor was one of the busiest whaling ports in the country in the early 1800s. Its historic district still holds Federal and Greek Revival houses along Main Street and the side streets near Long Wharf.
Older village homes often have low ceilings, small rooms, and original wide-plank floors. Robyn keeps that character and plans furniture and lighting that make modest rooms feel open. Harbor-side homes get view-first layouts.
Southampton Village dates to 1640 and is one of the oldest English settlements in New York. Large shingle-style estates line the lanes near the ocean, and the village center runs along Main Street and Jobs Lane.
Estate homes here need scale without stiffness. Robyn uses millwork, layered lighting, and careful furniture groupings to make big rooms comfortable for both quiet weeks and crowded summer weekends.
Water Mill takes its name from the 1644 mill that still stands at its center, near a windmill on the village green. The hamlet sits along Mecox Bay and is home to the Parrish Art Museum.
Many Water Mill properties combine open farmland views with large new construction. Robyn often joins these projects at the plan stage, so window placement and room sizes support the furniture and the view.
Wainscott is a small hamlet between Sagaponack and East Hampton, bordered by Georgica Pond and the ocean. Much of it is quiet residential land with estates near the dunes.
Homes here face strong ocean light and wind. Robyn plans UV-resistant fabrics, durable flooring, and window treatments that protect furnishings while keeping rooms bright.
Hampton Bays is a year-round community on Shinnecock Bay, near the Shinnecock Canal and the Ponquogue Bridge. Many homes sit on canals or along the bay, alongside capes and ranches inland.
Waterfront homes here need moisture-tolerant materials and flood-aware planning. Robyn also updates smaller year-round homes with brighter layouts and easy-care finishes.
Each of these towns has a dedicated page with local projects, services, and answers to common questions.
