Estate-scale interior design for the North Shore villages between Hempstead Harbor and Oyster Bay.
Robyn Baumgarten has designed Long Island homes for more than 25 years. Her rooms have been featured in House, Distinction, Fashion Manuscript, Newsday, and the Long Island Press. Her studio sits in Plainview, a short drive from every village on this page.
The Gold Coast got its name from the country estates that industrial families built along the North Shore between the 1890s and the 1930s. Many of those houses still stand. Others were divided into smaller lots, and newer custom homes now share the same wooded roads.
That mix shapes the work. One project may restore a 1920s Tudor. The next may furnish a new build from the blueprint stage. Robyn plans each one around how the family lives today.
Large rooms are hard to get right. Without a plan, a 20-foot ceiling feels empty and a long hall feels cold. Robyn uses millwork, lighting, and furniture groupings to bring those spaces down to human scale.
Older estates need a careful hand. Robyn keeps original plaster, paneling, and stonework where they still serve the house. Then she brings kitchens, baths, and systems up to date.
On a multi-building property, she ties the main house, guest cottage, and pool house together with one palette. You get a single, consistent look across the whole property.
These villages do not have their own page on our site, so each one gets a short guide here. For towns with a dedicated page, see the town guides below.
Brookville is an incorporated village of large, wooded lots between Old Westbury and Old Brookville. The LIU Post campus occupies the former Hillwood estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post and E.F. Hutton, a reminder of the area's estate roots.
Homes here range from 1920s manors to custom houses built in the last 20 years. Robyn often works on great rooms, formal dining rooms, and primary suites that need warmth without losing their formality.
Oyster Bay Cove is a quiet village of estates and wooded preserves above Oyster Bay Harbor. Tiffany Creek Preserve sits inside its borders, and many properties back onto protected woodland.
Privacy and long views define these homes. Robyn plans rooms around the windows first, then layers natural wood, stone, and soft texture so interiors feel connected to the trees outside.

Glen Head is a hamlet of colonials, Tudors, and Victorians near the Oyster Bay branch of the LIRR. Glen Cove, the only city in the area, holds some of the best-known Gold Coast mansions, including the Pratt family estates and Welwyn Preserve.
Housing stock in both places spans more than a century. Robyn updates older layouts so kitchens open to family space, while keeping the trim and proportion that give these houses their character.
Sea Cliff began as a 19th-century summer resort on the bluffs above Hempstead Harbor. Its steep streets still hold one of Long Island's largest collections of Victorian homes.
Victorians come with tall windows, small rooms, and irregular floor plans. Robyn works with those quirks rather than against them. She keeps the porches, turned woodwork, and bay windows, then plans storage and lighting that a modern family needs.
Jericho sits just south of the estate villages, near Old Westbury and Muttontown. The 1788 Jericho Quaker Meeting House is one of the oldest buildings in the area. Most homes, however, are postwar colonials and split-levels built for families.
Those houses often have good bones and dated, closed layouts. Robyn opens the kitchen to the living space, adds light, and chooses durable finishes that hold up to everyday use.
Each of these towns has a dedicated page with local projects, services, and answers to common questions.

Robyn meets you at your home, on your schedule. She learns how you live, how you host, and what each part of the property needs.
She maps the rooms with floor plans, sample boards, and 3D views. You see the full look before any work begins.
She selects wood, stone, custom pieces, and art from her network of 150-plus trade vendors.
Her team manages every trade through the final reveal, so the home is finished and ready to live in.
