Gold Coast Estate Interior Design

Understanding the Prestigious Character of Old Brookville

Old Brookville, an incorporated village within the Town of Oyster Bay, represents a preserved enclave of Long Island’s North Shore Gold Coast. Established in 1929, its identity is shaped by a history transitioning from 17th-century farmland to a haven for magnificent estates built by affluent families in the early 20th century. With a population of approximately 2,020 residents spread across four square miles, the village maintains an atmosphere of exclusivity and intimacy. Its low population density and strict zoning for large residential lots underscore a commitment to privacy and a semi-rural allure, distinct from bustling suburbs.

Life in Old Brookville is defined by tranquility and a close relation to nature, evident in its wooded landscapes, horse farms, and proximity to nature preserves. Residents, with a median age around 47 and very high median household incomes (approx. $190,893), value the privacy afforded by sprawling properties, often featuring gates and extensive grounds. The architectural landscape is influenced by historic Gold Coast mansions, with styles like French Norman and Tudor Revival setting a precedent. Newer constructions echo this grandeur, emphasizing quality materials and valuable scale, contributing to the village’s reserved class.

It involves respecting the architectural integrity of historic estates while adapting spaces for contemporary living or creating new interiors that embody timeless appeal. My Design Story in Old Brookville

Art of Designing for Old Brookville Estates

The fabrics, rugs, and all the finishes used in the home were nothing short of special. The house was completely gutted. I worked with my team to design every element of this home: the kitchen, the bathrooms, the flooring colors, the lighting plan, and the molding design. And yes, we then purchased and furnished this 8,000 sq ft special and beautiful home.
While this home might look like a space that is not welcoming to kids, the big secret here is that every fabric purchased for this home had the grandkids in mind. All of the furnishings are performance fabrics; they withstand stains and look spectacular.

Spacious modern living room with high ceilings, white marble floors, large sectional sofa, coffee table, tall indoor plant, and a dark accent wall with built-in fireplace. Light floods in from large windows and entryway.

We focus on respecting the home’s original architecture while updating it for modern living. This involves careful restoration of details, selecting period-appropriate (or complementary) finishes, and integrating new systems discreetly to preserve the historic character.

Budgets vary widely based on scale, finishes, and furnishings. Given the size and quality expected in Old Brookville estates, projects represent a significant investment. We provide detailed budget breakdowns and work transparently with clients throughout the process.

Yes, art and accessory selection is an integral part of our service. We assist clients in curating pieces that complement the design, reflect their personal taste, and suit the scale of their rooms, often working with galleries or specific artists.

We utilize strategic space planning, layered window treatments offering variable opacity, selection of solid core doors, and sometimes acoustic considerations in material choices to improve the sense of privacy and tranquility within the home.

Due to the scale, level of detail, and custom elements often involved, thorough projects for large estates can range from 12 months to over two years, depending heavily on the scope of work and construction schedules.

We attain balance by selecting durable yet luxurious materials (like performance velvets or high-quality leather), focusing on comfortable furniture forms, creating intuitive layouts, and incorporating softer textures and personalized touches alongside grander elements.
