Interior design for the villages of the Town of North Hempstead, from the Great Neck peninsula to Roslyn and Albertson.
Robyn Baumgarten has designed Long Island homes for more than 25 years. Her rooms have been featured in House, Distinction, Fashion Manuscript, Newsday, and the Long Island Press. She runs her studio in Plainview and works throughout the Town of North Hempstead.
North Hempstead holds more than 30 villages and hamlets on a small piece of the North Shore. Two peninsulas, Great Neck and Manhasset Neck, reach into Long Island Sound, and Manhasset Bay and Hempstead Harbor bring water views to many streets.
The housing stock is just as varied. Waterfront estates sit near 1920s planned villages, and postwar splits sit a mile from both. Robyn designs for each type with its own approach.
Many homes here were built between the 1920s and the 1960s. They have solid construction and good proportion, but kitchens and baths that no longer fit how families live.
Robyn keeps what works. Original trim, fireplaces, and built-ins stay when they add character. Walls come down only where the layout needs to open up.
Near the water, she plans rooms around the view and chooses finishes that handle humidity. Inland, she focuses on flow, storage, and light. Either way, she manages the project from the first plan to the last detail.
These villages do not have their own page on our site, so each one gets a short guide here. For towns with a dedicated page, see the town guides below.
Plandome is a small village on the east shore of Manhasset Bay, between Plandome Heights and Plandome Manor. Its streets hold colonials and Tudors, many built in the 1920s and 1930s, with mature trees and bay glimpses.
These homes often have formal front rooms and a small kitchen at the back. Robyn reworks that plan so the kitchen and family room connect, while the living and dining rooms keep their classic feel.
Munsey Park was developed in the 1920s by the Metropolitan Museum of Art on land left to it by publisher Frank Munsey. The village still follows architectural guidelines, and its Colonial Revival streetscape is one of the most consistent on Long Island.
Exterior changes are tightly controlled, so most of the opportunity is inside. Robyn updates kitchens, baths, and family rooms in ways that respect the period style of the house.
Kings Point sits at the tip of the Great Neck peninsula and is home to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Its waterfront estates helped inspire the "West Egg" of The Great Gatsby.
Homes here are large, and many face Long Island Sound. Robyn has completed living room and primary suite projects in Kings Point. She plans view-first layouts and selects fabrics and finishes that hold up to sun and salt air.
Roslyn Heights is a hamlet just south of Roslyn Village. Most homes are mid-century splits, ranches, and colonials, set on quiet streets within the Roslyn school district.
Mid-century houses respond well to an open plan. Robyn removes the right walls, improves the light, and chooses durable finishes for busy households.
East Hills is an incorporated village of larger lots near Roslyn and Christopher Morley Park. Many original homes have been expanded or replaced with contemporary custom builds.
New and rebuilt homes often have big, open rooms that feel unfinished. Robyn adds structure with millwork, lighting, and furniture placement so the space feels warm and lived in.
Albertson is a hamlet of postwar capes and split-levels between Roslyn Heights and Mineola. Clark Botanic Garden sits at its center.
Smaller footprints call for careful planning. Robyn focuses on storage, light, and an open kitchen so the home feels bigger without adding square footage.
Each of these towns has a dedicated page with local projects, services, and answers to common questions.
